About UFT Solidarity

We are a caucus that advocates for everything that affects teachers: fair pay, good working conditions, good benefits. Our core belief is that teachers must advocate for themselves.

We empower educators to be the solution in order to return autonomy to the pedagogue. We believe this is best achieved when we follow the ideals of unionism and stand shoulder to shoulder to support each other.

We will work together to bring about solutions to the challenges NYC teachers face in the workplace. We believe in listening to all voices and examining issues from all sides.  We leave our partisan politics behind and join together in our work to uplift NYC educators.

Solidarity UFT is a progressive caucus of the United Federation of Teachers. All UFT Solidarity members pay UFT dues and are union proud!  However, we have different ideas in how the United Federation of Teachers should be led and what priorities they should act upon.

UFT Solidarity was founded on November 11, 2014, by a collective of UFT members, initially inspired by Francesco Portelos.

UFT Solidarity is led by a democratically elected nine-member council that meets monthly.

It currently also has a website committee and a membership committee.
