Our mission is to advocate for teachers in every area of their career as they work tirelessly for the benefit of NY City children. We believe that the following areas must be addressed in order to facilitate a working environment so that teachers can reach their full potential. Teachers need an environment in which they:
*are respected as individuals with different skills and talents, their strengths are recognized and developed.
*have a union that represents not just teachers but paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school staff with equal voice
*work in an environment of academic freedom with flexibility for each teacher to develop their style and talents
* are provided with a safe environment both physically, emotionally, and mentally. This must mean free from intimidation and retaliation for stating ideas and diverse opinions.
*have a union that represents teachers and allows for teachers to express their needs and addresses problems starting with members concerns working upward to result in union response
*principals are accountable for their misconduct
*recognize the human limitations of personnel, and paperwork is reduced and able to be managed
*Are given opportunities to design their evaluation systems with rating systems that are normed for their population
